king of kong island (1968)

aka Kong Island. Eva, la Venere selvaggia. Eve, the Wild Woman, Jungle 2000.
"When the jungle is silent it is a warning that death is near."
Burt (Brad Harris) is a mercenary and hunter who arrives in Nirobi searching for revenge, but before he can, the daughter of a friend (Adriana Alben) is kidnapped by some 'sacred apes', who seem to be working to a plan!
Cue lots of stock safari footage, in this preposterous thriller with mind controlled gorilla's and a female Tarzan-alike.

vampire over london (1952)

aka Old Mother Riley Meets The Vampire.
"Where is my robot, my beautiful robot."
An evil scientist (Bela Lugosi) dubbed 'the vampire' is kidnapping women in London, for no apparent reason! He also has plans to build an army of robots, and to this end kidnaps Miss Loretti (María Mercedes), the daughter of an Italian scientist. But when his first robot is mistakenly delivered to Old Mother Riley (Arthur Lucan) things get complicated.
An unfunny comedy, that lacks any form of drama, thrills or horror, but does have early outings for lots of popular female comedians, including Dora Bryan, Hattie Jacques and Dandy Nichols.

deep blue sea (1999)

"What you've done is taken God's oldest killing machine and given it will and desire. What you've done is knocked us all the way to the bottom of the goddamn food chain. It's not a great leap forward in my book."
An isolated deep sea research station is home to a group of scientists, (including Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows & Samuel L. Jackson), searching for a cure to Alzheimer's, using enzymes from giant Sharks. Unfortunately, as is usually the case, genetic mutating a killer species ends in a fight to the death, with the scientists becoming shark bait.
Well made thriller, with a decent amount of action, which off sets the lack of any real plot.

the fog (1980)

aka John Carpenter's The Fog.
"may the Lord forgive us for what we've done."
It's the centenary of the founding of a small Northern California fishing town, but unfortunately for the residents, (including Adrienne Barbeau & Jamie Lee Curtis), their ancestors weren't as nice as they think, and out of the fog comes some people hell bent on revenge.
An atmospheric ghost story, that delivers a few chills.

the 36th chamber of shaolin (1978)

aka Shaolin Master Killer. The Master Killer.
"If I could fight, I might have stopped them!"
In the midst of a brutal civil war anti-Ching rebels have established a base in Canton disguised as a school. Following its discovery by the Manchu government, San Te (Gordon Liu) manages to escape, whilst all others are massacred. He flees to the Shaolin Temple, determined to learn kung fu, in order one day to exact revenge.
Having been name checked by everyone from Quentin Tarantino, to the Wu-Tang Clan, this is a must see film for martial arts fans. A well written story drives the action, thought the centre of the story lies not in the revenge motif, but in the journey.

the woman in green (1945)

aka Sherlock Holmes and the Woman in Green.
"What are you looking at, Mr. Holmes?"
A serial killer is killing women and cutting off their thumbs, but with Sherlock Holmes on the case, you know that this will be anything but a run of the mill killer.
Another in the series, in which Rathbone gives a dry performance as Holmes, contrasted by the buffoonery of Nigel Bruce as Dr Watson. Otherwise this is a run of the mill outing for the duo.

halloween h20: twenty years later (1998)

"Oh. Miss Tate. I didn't mean to make you jump. It's Halloween. I guess everyone's entitled to one good scare."
Twenty years after Michael Myers attacked Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), we find her a successful headmaster at a secluded private school, and mother to a 17 year old boy (Josh Hartnett). But she still suffers from the recurrent fear that Michael is not dead and will return to stalk again.
Following a series of ever more low budget appearances, Hollywood persuaded the original scream teen back for one more stalk and slash. This one makes more of an effort to put the scares back into the series, but it is not enough. Stick with the original.
