the dog and the diamonds (1953)

"This is no time for playing!"
A gang of children are banned from owning pets by the council, but secretly do. And one hits on the idea of hiding them in a disused manor house, and set about making it into their private zoo. Unfortunately a gang of jewel thieves are using the house as their hideout and. The children and their animals do their best to defeat the villains and bring them to justice.
A wellmade adventure with some ingenious kids v crooks.

supersonic saucer (1956)

"It's really most perculiar."
A group of kids fined an alien, and help it when some crooks try and kidnap the poor guy.
Moralistic tale, that rips off ET...only 26 years to early.

the flood (1963)

"The waters are still rising."
1947, and whilst their parents have dashed to hospital for the birth of their next child, the other kids are left on the remote East Anglian farm. Not a problem, until a storm causes it to become cut off due to flooding, and the local louts decide to steal all their food.
Standard CFF film, where the kids have to work together to solve their problems.

the salvage gang (1958)

"So that's how it happened."
A gang of kids end up trying to make some cash to pay for a saw they have ruined, but are thwarted at every turn.
Frustrating comedy, but one that gives you a view of post-war London and the damage that had been inflicted.

the glitterball (1977)

Max (Ben Buckton) finds a tiny ball, which reveals itself to be an alien trying to get back to its mother-ship. so obviously with his new friend Pete (Keith Jayne) he sets about helping. Unfortunately a crook is also after them...
Quirky kids film, that trots along without much thought.

the boy who turned yellow (1972)

"Yellow plague hits London, wow!"
John (Mark Dightam) looses his pet mouse whist on a school trip to the Tower of London. Back at school his inattention due to worry he is sent home, and whilst on underground an accident turning all of the passengers yellow. He then finds out that it is due to the alien Nick (Robert Eddison), who lives on electricity, and shows John that he has newly found powers, which he uses to rescue his mouse...but was it all a dream.
Powell and Pressburger bring their twist to this children's production.

the man from nowhere (1975)

"Do you believe this idiotic story?"
Alice (Sarah Hollis Andrews) is orphaned and sent to live with her elderly uncle who she does not know. Whilst journeying to his house, she is confronted by a sinister man, who tells her to leave as she is in danger. Obviously none of the adults believe her story, especially as the sinister man continually confronts her, and tells her to leave...
Gothic horror for kids, thus lacking any sort of scares.

hide and seek (1972)

"You're not as interesting as you thought."
Keith Lawson (Peter Newby) absconeds from a Children's Home and legs it to London, to try and find his dad, who wrote to say he was getting re-married and moving away. But in reality his dad is doing a bank job, and doesn't want to be found.
Children's film, but one with a bit of grit added, and featuring the first appearance of Gary Kemp.

cup fever (1965)

"It was about time that these hooligans were brought to book!"
Barton United football club play in a local sunday league, and are doing rather well, that is until a council leader Mr Bates (David Lodge) decides they are going to build on the local park, depriving them of a ground. Help comes their way in the form of policeman (Bernard Cribbins) and the local professional club, Manchester United.
Children's adventure film, that is worth a watch for the views it offers of Manchester and Salford at the time, the cameo's by the Manchester United team and manager, and early appearances of Susan George and Olivia Hussey.

a hitch in time (1978)

"We'll be late.""
A pair of school kids (Michael McVey & Pheona McLellan) come to the aid of a man (Patrick Troughton) in distress. It turns out he is an inventor, and he's created a time machine, but he is too heavy for it. This being a kids film, they convince him that they should make the journey, and away they go.
OK children's sci-fi.

runaway railway (1965)

"We'll have to think of a way to raise some."
A small train line is set to close, and her engine, Matilda set for scrapping. But four young kids who love helping on the line, are determined not to let that happen.
Children's film, full of comedy, and gunge-ho enthusiasm.

the magnificent six and 1/2: peewee had a little ape (1969)

"There is another one, a real one."
The vicar has a jumble sale, and the gang brings some brick-a-brack to sell, and one of the kids is given an ape costume, but when a Chimp escapes from a circus, confusion reigns.
Slapstick comedy, that's best left to kids to watch.

the magnificent six and 1/2: it's not cricket (1968)

"It's not my ball."
The gang have a game of cricket, but when their ball is confiscated, it leads to an outbreak of falling down on a nearby building site.
Short film, of the slapstick kind with an early appearance of Sheila Hancock.

junket 89 (1970)

"Strange thing Junket. Wherever you are there is trouble."
Troublesome school kid Junket () causes an accident, that enables him to travel through time and space, causing mayhem along the way.
Early outing for what would become household names on British TV, in this enthusiastic children's adventure.

go kart go! (1963)

"You fixed it! You dirty rotten swine!"
The Damson St kids, (including a young Dennis Waterman), decide to join the racing set, but this puts them up against the Craven gang, led by the unscrupulous Harry Hagartty (Frazer Hines), a right set of rotters!
Fine children's film, with enough drama and humour to entertain even the most jaded of kids.
