wild at heart (1990)

A Bonnie and Clyde for the 90's, in this twisted road trip.

the elephant man (1980)

"My life is full because I know I am loved."
Victorian surgeon Frederick Treves (Anthony Hopkins) finds a disfigured man (John Hurt) exhibited as the Elephant Man in a freak show, and rescues him from his life of abuse,and bringing him some much needed dignity.
A tour-de-force in film making, bringing humanity to a tragic story.

eraserhead (1977)

"Did you and Mary have sexual intercourse?"
Henry Spencer (Jack Nance) stumbles through his life cowed by his industrial environment, his angry girlfriend (Charlotte Stewart), and the neverending cries of their new born mutated child. The only distraction is the radiator woman (Laurel Near), who appears to him and sings about the happiness of heaven.
The film that established Lynch as a maveric genius loaded down with neuroses and more than willing to pour them out onto the screen.

dune (1984)

"The spice must flow."
In the distant future, people mine Spice, a product that can fold time, and is thus essential for space travel. This precious substance is only found on one planet, known as Dune. The politics that come with big business impacts on Paul Atreides (Kyle MacLachlan), when his family, one of the ruling houses of the universe, are killed. Can he survive and is he in fact the prophet that can end the suffering of the planets?
Big budget film, that attempts to bring to the screen the first of the Dune novels. This it does with partial success, but suffers from some major miscasting, and an over complex script, (to follow it, it helps if you have read the book).

the grandmother (1970)

An young boy has some problems: he wets his bed, and has abusive parents. He then finds a bag of seeds in a spare room, which when planted sprout and grow into a grandmother!
Lynch develops a savage and bizarre world, a hint of things to come from this idiosyncratic director.

blue velvet (1986)

"I can't figure out if you're a detective or a pervert."
Returning to his idylic hometown of Lumberton to visit his family, Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) stumbles upon a human ear in a field. The police are no help so With the help of a friend Sandy (Laura Dern), Jeffrey decides to undertake his own investigation, starting with Dorothy (Isabella Rossellini), a nightclub singer who 'sandy thinks may have something to do with it. Unfortunately this leads them into a dark underworld and brings them into conflict with pychopath Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper) who holds something over Dorothy.
Lynch can weave a story into a nightmare like no other director, get ready for the everyday to become strange, and depravity to become the norm. A brave mix of horror, sado-masochistic sex and extreme black comedy, that digs into a world that exists out of sight of the normal suburban existence.
