14-year-old Hayley agrees to meet a fashion photographer, named Jeff, that she has been chatting to on the web. She seems to like him, despite the age difference invites herself to his house. But what is it that each is after and what are their motivations. Is it possible that Jeff is a paedophile, and what is it that keeps Hayley there?
A great example of what can be done with a little money and a good script. With barely a character in the film barring these two, who play a psychological game of cat and mouse until it inevitably turns nasty.
An isolated town gets ready for the month long night of an Alaskan winter. This includes sheriff Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) and his wife Stella (Melissa George), who are having marriage difficulties and have just separated. As the town battons down for winter he finds a series of grizzly murders and soon the town is under seige from a number of Vampires. Unfortunately for the town the Vampires are fast and powerful predators, intent on laying waste to everyone in the township. Can they fight and survive until sunrise, which is unfortunately 30 days away!
The film plays up the dread rather than the gore lending extra shocks when the vampires eventually attack. The only downer is the contrived ending, otherwise its thrills all the way.
