7.1.18

bloody new year (1987)

aka Horror Hotel.
"What's going on, it's only July." Six shipwrecked teenagers stumble on an empty hotel decorated for A New Years party. Being cold and wet, they think little of it and set about drying off. Then a kindly maid arrives and announces that they will all be taken care of...
Disjointed and very cheap horror, that has very few chills to redeem it.

21.7.14

spaced out (1979)

aka Outer Touch. Outer Reach.
"The one's with the flat chests have these strange appendiges."
Oli (Barry Stokes) is amongst three men, and a woman (Lynne Ross), who are abducted by three female aliens, (women with sequined eyebrows). They then set about finding all about the earthlings, and knowing nothing about males, are especially interested in their sexual interests!
Cheap exploitation flick, enlivened by some sarcastic wit.

16.1.11

terror (1978)

"I don't know anything about her. I only met her a week ago."
A 300 year old curse plagues the descendents of a witchburning. The last in the line is film director (John Nolan), who conveniently has made a gothic horror based on the tale. Following a cast and crew preview of the finished film one of the actresses (Carolyn Courage) starts acting weird, having being hypnotised. Then later another is brutally murdered...
Supposedly influenced by the rise of Giallo, this is competently made, (and pokes fun at 70's low budget exploitation along the way), but has none of the flair of that genre, just the electronic soundtrack and mysterious murders: The bedsit version of Susperia!

15.1.11

inseminoid (1981)

aka Horror Planet.
"What's going on? Whatever it is it's weird."
Planetary explorers on a distant world come across evidence of an ancient civilisation. Following the discovery its team start having accidents, but is really disrupted when one of the scientists is raped and impregnated by an alien. This turns the normally mild mannered archaeologist (Judy Geeson) into a homicidal maniac, stalking and killing the rest of her colleagues.
Cashing in on the audience's frenzy for all things spacy after Star Wars, Warren delivers this gorefest, with more than a touch of Alien about it: low on budget, but high on pace and gore.

27.4.09

prey (1978)

aka Alien Prey.
An alien kills a young man, takes on his appearance and worms his way into the lives of a lesbian couple, getting in the middle of their domestic disputes. But why is the alien here?
A low budget sci-fi horror that tries to weave a domestic melodrama into the storyline, but fails. A valiant attempt but one that cant quite hold my attention. It livens up towards the end, but by this point I really didn't care.

10.3.09

satan's slave (1976)

aka Evil Heritage.
Starts promisingly with a satanic sacrifice, but quickly descends into an overly talky thriller, interspersed with short sharp sadistic tortures, mostly visited upon naked women. Whilst the gore is well done, the interminable wait and over verbose exposition dampened the whole experience for me. A mix of sex, death, sadism, satanism, resurrection and madness, all at a tortuously slow pace.
