day of the dead (2008)

aka Day of the Dead: The Need to Feed. "Nothing happens in this town anyway."
A small Colorado town is quarantined by the army, in what they are calling a routine exercise, bt in reality military scientists have developed a virolant virus that soon turns much of the towns inhabitants into flesh devouring zombies. Holding out are a small group of survivors led by Sarah Bowman (Mena Suvari), but can they survive until help arrives, if help is arriving at all. Good special effects only serve to show the rest of this film up, for what it is, a half arsed attempt to leach off the good name of the original Day of the Dead.

halloween h20: twenty years later (1998)

"Oh. Miss Tate. I didn't mean to make you jump. It's Halloween. I guess everyone's entitled to one good scare."
Twenty years after Michael Myers attacked Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), we find her a successful headmaster at a secluded private school, and mother to a 17 year old boy (Josh Hartnett). But she still suffers from the recurrent fear that Michael is not dead and will return to stalk again.
Following a series of ever more low budget appearances, Hollywood persuaded the original scream teen back for one more stalk and slash. This one makes more of an effort to put the scares back into the series, but it is not enough. Stick with the original.

lake placid (1999)

"They conceal information like that in books!"
Something is lurking in the waters of a remote lake, and it turns out to be a giant crocodile. Enter Sheriff Keough (Brendan Gleeson), to oversee the investigation, with experts Jack Wells (Bill Pullman), Kelly Scott (Bridget Fonda) and Hector Cyr (Oliver Platt), who sarcastically barb at each other whilst trying to find the pesky varmint.
Thriller, that plays the comedy card well, creating four characters that bounce off each other, making what could have been a run of the mill horror, into something a cut above.
