stormy crossing (1958)

aka Black Tide.
"Well Bill, I'm all yours now."
An American trainer, Griff (John Ireland) and his brother Danny (Sheldon Lawrence), arrive to train for a cross-channel swim. Already there and training is Kitty Parker (Joy Webster), a model come swimmer. The two soon team up, but then she disappears on their crossing Danny becomes convinced there is skulduggery involved and is determined to get to the bottom of it as the police do not believe him.
Giving the game away early on takes much of the thrill out of this drama.

ladies who do (1963)

"It's uncanny. How does he do it?"
A cleaner (Peggy Mount), lucks onto some insider information, and through her contact The Colonel (Robert Morley), makes a tidy sum. This sets them thinking that if they went in with her fellow cleaners, they could all make some money. Then when she finds out one of her bosses (Harry H. Corbett) has bought her street and plans to knock it down to build flats, the scheme takes on a more earnest turn.
Clichéd look at the East End in 1963, full of self made men determined to 'improve' the lot of the working classes by breaking up communities and scattering them to the winds. But this still proves to be an entertaining comedy, all be it, not one that will have you rolling in the aisles.

a challenge for robin hood (1967)

aka Robin Hood's Chase. The Legend of Robin Hood.
"One less Saxon thief and trouble us!"
Robin (Barrie Ingham), a young Norman nobleman, ends up on the run after being falsely accused of murder. It's all an attempt to seize control of his lands. Whilst hiding in Sherwood Forest, Robin gathers other rebels to fight against his scheming cousin (Peter Blythe) and the evil sheriff of Nottingham (John Arnatt).
Well made romp through familiar territory, though let down by the casting of Ingham who lacks a certain charisma.

dentist in the chair (1960)

"Is that the way you usually treat your patients."
David (Bob Monkhouse) and Brian (Ronnie Stevens) are dental students, who inadvertantly sell some stolen dental equipment supplied by Sam (Kenneth Connor). With the police on their trail they try to pass off Sam as a student whilst trying to get rid of the evidence.
A run of the mill 'doctor' style comedy, it has its moments, but they are few and far between. Thankfully Peggy Cummins livens things up as the love interest.

inn for trouble (1960)

Alf Larkin (David Kossoff), Ada (Peggy Mount) and the rest of the family are given a small village pub to manage by Belcher's Brewery. Unfortunately they soon come into conflict with the locals by replacing the local brew with Belcher's, a drink none of them can stand. So the family have to come up with a few enticements to bring the locals back.
Comedy done by the book, if the book was called 'mildy diverting, run of the mill comedy'. Leslie Phillips and Charles Hawtrey pop amongst others, but don't make much of a difference.
