you're big boy now (1966)

"Don't eat too much, don't stay out too late, don't go to suspicious places to play cards, and stay away from girls. But most of all, Bernard, try to be happy."
Bernard (Peter Krastner) is a socially awkward young man trying to get away from his over-bearing parents (Geraldine Page & Rip Torn), and chooses go-go dancer Barbara (Elizabeth Hartman) to help him do so.
Breakaway feature after many years under the wing of Roger Corman, shot on location on 42nd Street, this gives a great insight into the area of the time.

battle beyond the sun (1959)

aka The Heavens Call. The Sky Calls.
"A monster of evolution."
Two super powers race to have the first successful landing on Mars, with one having to rescue the other, before landing on Mars and finding some monsters.
AIP took a Russian space flick, add some cheesy new material and create something less than the sum of its parts.

the outsiders (1983)

"Greasers will still be Greasers and Socs will still be Socs. It doesn't matter."
Tension mounts between two gangs, the socs and the greasers. When two of the greasers, Johnny (Ralph Macchio), and Ponyboy (C. Thomas Howell) are viciously beaten by the socs. During the affray Johnny stabs one of the socs trying to save Ponyboy. With the Soc dead Johnny and Ponyboy go on the run.
Bratpack heavy drama, based on a popular, (in America), children's book. A tale of 'us and them' and redemption, with added Gone with the Wind stylings.

dementia 13 (1963)

"The mood around this place isn't good for her."
After suffering a heart attack John Haloran dies and his wife Louise (Luana Anders) finds out she will be cut out of any inheritance if Lady Haloran dies after her son. So Louise tries to convince his family that he's away on business when she travels to his ancestral home in Ireland...
Intertwining twists into the main story gives an added depth to the plot. An entertaining and intreging film written, and directed by the 22 year old Coppola, that belighs the minuscule budget.

dracula (1992)

AKA Bram Stoker's Dracula.
"The blood is the life... and it shall be mine."
Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves) is tasked with findind one of their clients a home in England, but he disappears once he visits the Count (Gary Oldman) in Transylvania. His fiance Mina (Winona Ryder) is worried, but her friend Lucy (Sadie Frost) takes her mind off things. Then Lucy starts acting funny and wierd things start happening. Enter Prof. Van Helsing (Anthony Hopkins), who thinks he knows what the problem is...
The classic story is re-visited by Coppola, giving it all the lushness and sensuality he can to bring. Visually stunning, some atrocious miscasting make this an entertaining mix, but lacking the horror of older versions.

rumble fish (1983)

"If you're going to lead people, you have to have somewhere to go."
Rusty James (Matt Dillon), a hoodlum, tries to live up to his older brother's reputation. His brother, The motorcycle boy (Mickey Rourke), returns after an absense of a couple of months, but is distracted and not the same person that controlled the local gangs previously. Rusty struggles with life, as it falls apart, and he loses his friends, and his confidence.
One of those films where every frame seems to be perfect. Artwork as much as a piece of entertainment.
