An S and M take on The Most Dangerous Game that lacks any thrills!

downtown (1975)

Aka Down Town. DownTown: Die nackten Puppen der Unterwelt.
Cynthia (Lina Romay) hires private detective Al Pereira (Jesús Franco) to take compromising photos of her husband, and finds himself declared the prime suspect in the man's subsequent murder.
Franco throws everything into this cheesy and ponderous ode to a particular part of Lina Romay's body!

sinner: the secret diary of a nymphomaniac (1973)

AKA Le journal intime d'une nymphomane.
"They say that love makes the world go round, and all is fair in love and war."
Linda Vargas (Montserrat Prous) picks up Ortiz (Manuel Pereiro) in the bar where she works, and after seducing him, kills herself. He is immediately arrested, and it looks bad, as he is covered in her blood and holding the knife she killed herself with. So it is up to his wife, Rosa (Jacqueline Laurent) to investigate the death, and she soon learns of Linda's tragic decent into sex and drugs following her sexual assault by Ortiz as a young girl.
An interesting concept turned into a lackluster tale of depravity.

Celestine, Maid at Your Service (1974)

AKA Célestine... bonne à tout faire.
"Oh!".
Celestine (Lina Ronay) escapes from the brothel, and becomes a maid, which thrives idyllic family life. But soon Celestine start to give way to their sexual attraction to the new maid.
Bawdy and unfunny sex comedy.

virgin report (1972)

aka Jungfrauen Report
"Desire was the devil's work."
Pseudo documentary about various sexual rites of passage in cultures around the world.
The film mixes genres, from documentary, mondo and drama, giving us a tongue in cheek look at virginity through the ages.

love letters of a portuguese nun (1977)

aka Die Liebesbriefe einer portugiesischen Nonne.
"...after all sinning is not that bad."
A young girl, Maria (Susan Hemingway), is sent to a convent, secretly run by Satanists, on the orders of Father Vicente (William Berger), who uses her as a plaything.
Beautifully shot film that delves into the corruption of a young girl, through the hypocrisy of religion, and those using it to their own ends.

marquis de sade's justine (1969)

aka Deadly Sanctuary. Justine and Juliet. Justine de Sade.
"This is the story of Justine and the misfortunes of virtue."
The story of a young woman (Romina Power) forced out of the convent she was entrusted to, whose innocence is abused by all who meet her.
High production values, and a scattering of name actors, such as Jack Palance and Mercedes McCambridge, fail to cover up the fact that this is over-long at 2 hours.

succubus (1968)

Lorna (Janine Reynaud) is a nightclub stripper who is groomed by William (Jack Taylor) to become a part of his bizarre fantasies.
Surreal dream, that you enjoy for the striking imagery, or go nuts and turn it off due to the inconsistencies and constant soft focus!

sexy sisters (1977)

aka Die teuflischen Schwestern. Satanic Sisters. The Devilish Sisters.
"Milly is a very sick girl."
Countess Von Stein (Pamela Stanford) holds her younger sister Milly (Karine Gambier) prisoner. Milly suffers from a sexual trauma, due to being raped. But is the Countess looking after Milly's best interests or is that Molly is actually the sole inheritor of their father's fortune. Can Joe (Kurt Meinicke), save her from the machinations of the Countess and her Dr (Jack Taylor)?
Soft-core sexual extravaganza, that really never gets going plot wise.

nightmares come at night (1970)

aka Les cauchemars naissent la nuit.
"Don't be rediculous! It was only a bad dream."
Anna (Diana Lorys) lives with Cynthia (Colette Giacobine), who is worried about her friends mental state. She consults with Dr Lucas (Paul Muller), who tries to limit her nightmares, all watched over by a mysterious couple next door (Andrea Montchal and Soledad Miranda).
This looks like what it is, two unfinished movies mashed together, producing a psychodrama, with lots of babble and skin, but not much sense!

the girl from rio (1969)

aka Rio 70. Die sieben Männer der Sumuru. Future Woman. The Seven Secrets of Sumuru.
"The safest thing to steal is stolen money."
A tribe of Amazonian women from Femina, led by their queen Sumuru (Shirley Eaton), attack wealthy men, as part of a long-term plan to take over the world.
A low budget In Like Flint, looks good, but lacks cohesion.

sadomania (1981)

aka Hellhole Sadomania - Hölle der Lust.
"Let's be adventurous and see what mysteries lie ahead." A young couple on their honeymoon stumble on the Hacienda Blanca, a prison run by Magda Urtado (Ajita Wilson). A prison where women are made to work topless in the hot sun.
Basic plot that allows for much softcore fumbling.

Tender and Perverse Emanuelle (1973)

aka Tendre et perverse Emanuelle.

psychiatrist Michel Dreville (Jack Taylor) becomes the suspect in a former lover's murder, and has to try and clear his name by finding the real killer of Emmanuelle (Alice Arno), whilst trying to contend with the attention of Greta (Lina Romay), another lover.
A murder mystery, featuring an early outing for Lina Romay, tacked onto the Emanuelle genre, and lacking one vital ingredient, a plot!

swedish nympho slaves (1977)

A father, Amos Radeck (Vítor Mendes) searches for his kidnapped daughter Martine (Martine Stedl), who has been taken as a sex toy for Madame Arminda (Lina Romay).
Much nudity, and little plot.

the inconfessable orgies of emmanuelle (1982)

aka Las orgías inconfesables de Emmanuelle. Emmanuelle Exposed.
"I wouldn't marry her that's for sure."
The torrid sex and emotional life of Emmanuelle (Muriel Montossé) continues, as she and her husband (Antonio Mayans) party and bicker on the Spanish island of Mallorca.
Not great as a film, never mind a sex film, and in typical exploitation fashion, there are no orgies in sight!

devil hunter (1980)

aka El caníbal.
"You'll get over it in time I promise."
Vietnam vet, Peter (Al Cliver), charges to the rescue of Laura (Ursula Buchfellner), a model kidnapped and hidden on an island of cannibals, but he doesn't bank on also having to confront their Devil god.
Nonsensical nonsense from the mind of Jess Franco, featuring prosaic direction, bad acting and an even worse script.

eugenie: the story of her journey into perversion (1970)

aka Marquis de Sade's 'Philosophy in the Boudoir'. Philosophy in the Boudoir. Eugénie. The Story of Her Journey Into Perversion.
"Cruelty is...natural."
Eugenie (Marie Liljedahl), a shy young girl, is invited to visit the island home of a brother and sister (Jack Taylor and Maria Rohm). There she happens upon a book by the Marquis De Sade, and is soon embarking on a journey into sexual exploration.
Well it doesn't take much to get this 'shy' young girl to shed her inhibitions, in this easy listening softcore. Features Christopher Lee in the role of narrator to this torrid tale. appearance by Christopher Lee.

count dracula (1970)

aka Jess Franco's Count Dracula. Nachts, wenn Dracula erwacht. Bram Stoker's Count Dracula. The Nights of Dracula.
"Professor you must do something, you can't let her die through ignorance."
A standard telling of the Dracula story, with Jonathan Harker (Fred Williams) enabling the Count (Christopher Lee) to spread his wings and emergrate to England. Fortunately Prof. Van Helsing (Herbert Lom) is on hand to revoke his visa!
Jess Franco tries to tell the vampire story as straight as possible, but spends all the money on the all star cast, including Klaus Kinski. With very little left for anything else, he manages only to deliver a prosaic version of the tale.

amazons in the temple of gold (1986)

"I journey there for revenge."
Fifteen years after her mother and father were killed by the Amazonians, Liana (Analía Ivars) joins an expedition searching for the Golden temple, and to seek revenge on the tribe who protect it.
A truly incompetent mess, that has nudity as its only selling point.

woman behind bars (1975)

aka Des diamants pour l'enfer.
"You see evil in everything."
A diamond thief is killed by his girlfriend Shirley (Lina Romay). She immediately confesses and is thrown in prison to face torture from the sadistic warden and his guards as they try and find out where her boyfriend hid the gems.
Sexploitation thriller, throwing in torture, nudity and lesbianism - just the every day life of a female prisoner. One of Franco's better WIP movies, but it's certainly not one of his best, lacking pace, cinematography or a coherent script.
