the body beneath (1970)

"You are always one step ahead of me."
Carfax Abbey is taken over by a family of vampires, led by the Rev. Ford (Gavin Reed) and they decide the family could do with an influx of new blood to stop inbreeding, so set about looking for some suitable candidates. Distant relative Susan Ford (Jackie Skarvellis) takes his fancy so he abducts her, but her boyfriend Paul Donati (Richmond Ross) doesn't like the arrangement!
Well made but dull.

desert of blood (2008)

"We buried him alive and now he is free again!"
An American tourist is in Mexico hunting for buried treasure with his girlfriend Amy (Annika Svedman). Unfortunately what he digs up is a vampire (Justin Quinn) and it is up to Father Hernandez (Flint Esquerra) to sort things out.
Watchable Mexican twist on the a standard vampire tale, but nothing special.

the vourdalak (2023)

"It was unbearable."
A French envoy (Kacey Mottet Klein) is waylaid whilst travelling in the Balkans. Lost and alone he is advised to seek out Gorcha who will be able to help him. On arrival at Gorcha's house he finds he has left a note with his family stating that has gone to fight the turkish bandits and if he returns after 6 days he is to be considered a Vourdalak! As expected Gorcha is found collapsed...minutes after the 6 days has expired!
Based on Tolstoy's gothic novel this is a stylish and atmospheric tale, reminding me of the Italian horrors of the 60's.

billy the kid versus dracula (1966)

"The marks of a vampire are on her throat."
Dracula (John Carradine) is traveling across the American Old West when he sees a picture of the young and beautiful Elizabeth (Melinda Plowman) and is determined to make her his vampire bride. Unfortunately for him Her fiance is Billy the Kid (Chuck Courtney), now going straight as a ranch foreman.
A bright and breezy film that plays extremely fast and loose with all genre tropes, with rubber bats and hokey dialogue.

the last voyage of the demeter (2023)

"I can't go back sir."
Opening on a ship wrecked on the Yorkshire coast, this follows the voyage that brought the damned vessel and its cargo to its resting place under Capt Eliot (Liam Cunningham)
Developing the story chaptered in the novel Dracula, this fleshes out the story and adds the inevitable end line to allow for a sequel.

renfield (2023)

"You stood up to him! How did you do that."
After centuries of serving Dracula (Nicolas Cage), the pair are hiding out in New Orleans and Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) meets policewoman (Awkwafina) who gives him the gumption to finally ready to rid himself of his master.
A breezy gore filled horror-comedy, that brings the relationship of Dracula and his servant Renfield up to date.

the vampire happening (1971)

aka Gebissen wird nur nachts - das Happening der Vampire.
"It's nice to be back amongst the living."
American actress Betty Williams (Pia Degermark) inherits a Transylvanian castle. What she does not know is that her vampiric ancestor, is still plaguing neighbourhood.
A curiousity that is neither comedy, or horror, but is wonderfully kitsch.

fiancee of dracula (2002)

aka La fiancée de Dracula.
"The time of the skull clock is upon us."
The Professor (Jacques Orth) and his assistant are trying to track down Dracula, and feel that following isabele (Cyrille Iste), may be able to lead them to her 'master'.
Lacks a coherent narrative, almost made up for with some startling imagery and atmospere. Almost!

vampirella (1996)

"Join me for a bite."
Ella (Talisa Soto) travels from Drakulon to Earth on the trail of Vlad (Roger Daltrey), her father's murderer. Once on earth she hooks up with the high-tech vampire hunter Adam Van Helsing (Richard Joseph Paul).
Either a camp classic, or just a straight to video mess...

sundown: the vampire in retreat (1989)

"Once a blood sucker, always a blood sucker."
An off the map desert town owned by Count Mardulak (David Caradine), is home to a bunch of vampires, who live on synthetic blood, and keep themselves to themselves. Unfortunately some campers arrive in town and witness one of their friends murdered. Then Robert Van Helsing (Bruce Campbell) arrives, only to find a civil war erupting between the vampires, as some one to return to the old ways of praying on humans, rather than co=existing. Van Helsing, helped by Sandy (Deborah Foreman), sets about ending war.
An entertaining mix of comedy and horror.

what we do in the shadows (2014)

"This is what happens when you are a vampire. You have to watch everyone die."
A film crew follows four flat mates in their daily lives and squabbles. Only these flat mates just happen to be vampires.
An entertaining pseudo documentary, that loads up on the comedy, rather than the horror.

bordello Of blood (1996)

Aka Dead Easy. Tales from the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood.
"Chill baby!"
Caleb Verdoux (Corey Feldman) is a no good punk who goes missing, much to the consternation of his sister Katherine (Erika Eleniak). She hires a P.I. (Dennis Miller) to find him which leads them to a brothel headed by Lilith (Angie Everhart) but Katherine has trouble believing that Lilith is the head of a vampire cult. As does her boss evangelist Reverend Current (Chris Sarandon).
Comedy horror, that has a fine line in quips and gore.

vampire buster (1989)

aka Zhuo gui da shi. Ninja Vampire Busters.
"Boo!"
An ancient demon sealed in an urn, is unwittingly released Centuries later, and takes control of a Councilman's body. Luckily there is a priest (Kent Cheng) on hand to try and return the demon to his prison.
The humour (and lack of vampire) detracts slightly from this otherwise entertaining horror.

munster, go home! (1966)

"Marilyn, if you should happen to meet any strange men on board, be sure and speak to them."
The Munster family inherit a British estate, unfortunately its the base for some counterfeiters, including Terry-Thomas and John Carradine, who set about trying to scare the family off the property.
Made for TV, but theatrically released upgrade of the tv series, does little to engage.

dr. Terror's house of horrors (1964)

aka The Blood Suckers. Doctor Terror.
"Schreck? That's a German word isn't it? Means fear or horror."
A number of people are in a train carriage and told their futures by Dr Sandor Schreck (Peter Cushing), with all five doomed in some way.
First of many portmanteau productions from Amicus, this one featuring such luminaries as Donald Sutherland and Christopher Lee.

blood ties (1991)

"We are all trying to get civilised."
Cody (Jason London) sees his parents murdered, and is almost killed himself. He makes his way to his uncle's in Los Angeles, and is welcomed by the 'Carpathian-American society', and we realise they are vampires being hunted by a group of religious zealots.
intriguing idea that is given the 'TV movie' treatment.

only lovers left alive (2013)

"I don't have heroes."
Sensing that her reclusive lover Adam (Tom Hiddleston), is suicidally depressed, Eve (Tilda Swinton), rushes to his side. But this romantic interlude is interrupted by the arrival of Eve's sister, Mia (Mia Wasikowska).
Beautiful, meandering, but engaging story of vampires and love that transcends the ages.

lust at first bite (1978)

aka Dracula Sucks. The Coming of Dracula's Bride.

An adult version of the Bram Stoker character, is either a disjointed hardcore, or violent softcore story depending on which version you happen upon.

way of the vampire (2005)

"Look around you, we are surrounded by giants."
The most formibable vampire hunter, Dr. Abraham Van Helsing (Rhett Giles), is made immortal by the Catholic Church, to enable him to hunt down the last vampire prince (Andreas Beckett), the creature who killed his wife.
Cheap and undeserving of attention.

abrahan lincoln: vampire hunter (2012)

"It falls to us Abraham, the hunters, to keep the balance, to ensure that this remains a nation of men and not monsters."
Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) sees his mother murdered by a vampire, and vows to hunt down her killer, Jack Barts (Marton Csokas). But first he needs to learn how to kill the undead. A task that Henry Sturges (Dominic Cooper) sets about teaching him.
A roller coaster of a script, (in that it has pacing issues), which entwines real events with fiction, and throws in some action pact sequences to keep you watching.
