No holds barred, (for the time), tale of pimps and prostitutes.

danger within (1959)

aka Breakout.
"This way Benucci can sit back and watch us fight amongst ourselves."
In a WWII POW camp everyone becomes a suspect When a break out ends up with the escapee being killed. The escape committee leader, Lieutenant Colonel David Baird (Richard Todd), suspects an informer is operating in the camp. The race is on to find the spy and to stage a mass breakout before the camp is handed over to the Germans.
Star studded film, that has the added attraction of being a murder mystery as well as wartime drama.

creatures the world forgot (1971)

"Takk!"
A tribe of pre-historic people try to eak a living out of an unforgiving landscape. A mountain tribe moves from its hunting grounds following a volcanic eruption. They move across the desert and come across a blond haired tribe, who they join forces with.
One Million Years BC this isn't. No stop motion dinosaurs, just primitive man fighting themselves and the elements, with nothing more than grunts in lue of language. A curio which tries to bring a realism to early man's struggles, even the beautiful actresses that normally grace such Hammer fare (such as Julie Ege) are dressed down here. Not to most people's taste, but I found the human struggle more than enough to not miss the dinosaurs!

the viking queen (1967)

"Death to the Romans! Come On!"
Salina (Carita), honours her father's dying wish to become Queen of the Iceni, and to share her throne with Justinian (Don Murray), a Roman. This annoys the Druids on one side and some of the hardcore Romans on the other. Soon the couple find themselves in the middle of a war, each on opposite sides despite their growing love for each other.
A film, that can never claim to be an epic, but is enjoyable nonsense in a peplum type way. Mind you don't look too closely, there are no vikings, and the Druids seem to worship Zeus!

jason and the argonauts (1963)

aka Jason and the Golden Fleece.
Jason (Todd Armstrong), is the son of the usurped king of Thessaly and has returned to claim the throne. Jason in pursuit of this goal undertakes to journey to Colchis and return with the legendary Golden Fleece. He assembles a crew of the finest men in Greece, including Hercules (Nigel Green) to crew his ship, the Argo and is told he is under the protection of Hera, queen of the gods (Honor Blackman). The journey brings them into conflict with harpies, Talos: a giant bronze statue, the hydra, and the hydra's children: a skeleton army.
The mangled version of Jason's legendary journey is actually a wonderful adventure. Once seen never forgotten, especially the set piece fight with the skeleton army, all brought to life by the special effects wizardry of Ray Harryhausen. All enhanced by the wonderful music of Bernard Herrmann. A must see for children of all ages.

one million years bc (1966)

A story of love and jealousy amongst the dinosaurs! Banished by his tribe, Tumak is forced to wander and survive on own. He stumbles across a tribe of gentle people living by the sea, but he's soon in trouble with them as well and has to leave, but not before he has made an impression on Loana who decides to go with him to brave the harshness of this pre-historic world.
Featuring animation by Ray Harryhausen, and some up and coming Hollywood talent, this is Hammer in blockbuster mode. Hardly a historic classic - since when did dinosaurs share the earth with cavemen? But the distraction of Raquel Welsh in a fur bikini takes your mind off such things. An old fashioned adventure story done well. Enjoyable nonsense and much better than 10,000 BC the recent Roland Emmerich epic.
