ping pong (2002)

"Do you believe in heroes?"
Two school friends both play table tennis, but in differing styles. "Peco" Hoshino (Yôsuke Kubozuka) is brash, and arrogant, believing that one day he will become a pro. Whilst "Smile" Tsukimoto (Arata) has an inate talent, but frustrates all by his refusal to develop his talent.
A simple, heartwarming look at friendships and table tennis.

twisted nerve (1968)

"He won't be any trouble."
Martin (Hywel Bennett) is a troubled young man drifting through life, retreating into an alternate personality; that of a six-year old Georgie. Then he meets Susan (Hayley Mills). Infatuated with her, he uses Georgie to wiedle his way into her life, but when she starts to get too close to another lad, Martin snaps...
A supremely subtle portrait of a psychopath, which underplays the horror, to concentrate on the twisted character of Martin.

the fat spy (1966)

"I'd like to be a rose in your garden, but I'm just a thorn in your side."
An island is invaded by some teens looking for some fun, but the islands owner (Brian Donlevy) doesn't like them being there and sets his daughter, Junior (Jayne Mansfield), and Irving (Jack E. Leonard) the task of getting rid of them. Further trouble come from Irving's twin brother, Herman (Jack E. Leonard), and Camille Salamander (Phyllis Diller), who are also on the island, looking for the fountain of youth.
A troubled production, saddled with a director who could not direct, a mess of a script and actors who if they could act, just could not be bothered to try. Some things were just not meant to be seen, but on the plus side, it does feature some interesting music by the Wild Ones, of Lord Love A Duck fame.

the walking dead (1936)

"But you can't kill me for something I didn't do! You can't!"
An ex-con (Boris Karloff) is framed for murder, and sent to the electric chair. Following his death, three scientists resurrect him, and he sets out to avenge his death.
An interesting premise, that is enjoyable but doesn't quite explode to life.

vampire girl vs frankenstein girl (2009)

aka Gaijinsploitation 3. Kyûketsu Shôjo tai Shôjo Furanken.
"I have evolved."
A typical Japanese high school and recently transfered Monami (Yukie Kawamura) has a crush on Mizushima (Takumi Saitô), but doesn't know that he is dominated by the school bully Keiko (Eri Otoguro). Things come to a head when Monami turns Mizushima into a half vampire. For she is a vampire and when Keiko dies in a bizarre accident, her science teacher father brings her back to life ...let the battle begin.
Frenetic teen comedy with lashings of gore, what's not to like.

valentino (1977)

"He moves like a tiger."
Russell again brings his inimitable style and overload to the biopic. This time Rudolph Valentino (Rudolf Nureyev), the silent movie star that caused such an outpouring of grief with his premature death in 1926.
An entertaining, if over long picture. Nureyev has an animal grace, and gives a surprisingly competent performance, though lacking that certain spark that would suggest he would send the women wild with desire.

monsters (2010)

"I don't cause it, I just document it. Everyone has to earn a living."
Mexico has become infested with extraterrestrial lifeforms, a restricted area, where the military struggle to contrain the creatures from spilling out into the wider world. Journalist Andrew Kaulder (Scoot McNairy), is there to get a scoop, but gets sidetracked when he is assigned to escort his bosses daughter, Samantha Wynden (Whitney Able) out of danger.
A fine example of what can be achieved with some guile, talent and a lot of processing power. A road movie with an atmosphere of tension, and pretentions to greater things, that goes a long way to achieving them.

the doll squad (1973)

aka Female Mercenaries. Seduce and Destroy.
"Take it easy lady, you'll live longer."
A mad man pops up, threatening to take over the world, and the only people who can stop him are the doll squad led by Sabrina Kincaid (Francine York). A crack team of 'experienced' ladies...
A no budget, cruedly written, badly acted, and trashy espionage thriller chock full of buxom women such as Tura Satana, who mix sex appeal with ineffective martial arts.
