sherlock holmes (2009)

Sherlock (Robert Downey Jr.) is disconcerted that Dr Watson (Jude Law) is planning to move out and marry. Meanwhile they still manage to capture Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), a satanist, who is subsequently hanged, but then returns to terrorise the great and the good of English society. Can Sherlock track down and bring to justice a dead man?
Grand re-imaging of the great detective, proves a hit, with action, adventure and comedy.

the scarlet claw (1944)

aka Sherlock Holmes and the Scarlet Claw.
"The name of the third person is..."
Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) takes up a case, where the locals believe that a monster is slashing the throats of innocent victims, but as usual there is more to this than meets the eye.
A usual Universal deliver a well made and entertaining thriller, but one that doesn't stand out as anything special.

cats eye (1985)

"I just want keep you on your toes."
Portmanteau of horror stories by Stephen King, all featuring the same cat. We start in New York, where Stephen Morrison (James Woods) joins Quiters inc. A company that will do anything to stop their clients from smoking. Following this, the cat moves in with an inveterate gambler, who forces a tennis pro, who tries to run off with his wife, to walk around his penthouse apartment, on the outside of the building. And finally the cat turns up at a rural house, and attempts to protect a young girl from the attentions of a malicious imp.
More of a thriller than a horror, but one whose three stories never outstay their welcome.

sherlock Holmes' fatal hour (1931)

aka the sleeping cardinal.
"For a long time I've been conscious of some power, a deep organisation that stands beyond the law."
Threatened with exposure, a card cheat, Ronald Adair (Leslie Perrins) is blackmailed into joining a counterfeit ring masterminded by Professor Moriarty. His sister (Jane Welsh) fears for him, and engages her friend Dr Watson (Ian Fleming) to investigate, and he brings along his friend Sherlock Holmes (Arthur Wontner).
Stilted, and mannered, a product of its age, and not one that has aged well. Crime Drama, Leslie Hiscott,

grabbers (2012)

"A bird never flew on one wing."
Bloodsucking aliens invade an island off the coast of Ireland, and its up to two Garda (Richard Coyle & Ruth Bradley), and the local marine biologist (Russell Tovey) to discover a way of surviving the onslaught.
A fine example of what can be achieved with a little money and wit.

red: werewolf hunter (2010)

"Is he bitten?"
Virginia 'Red' Sullivan (Felicia Day), has more reason to be nervous than most when brings her boyfriend (Kavan Smith) home to meet her family. For they are werewolf hunters, and it doesn't take long to realise it was a bad mistake to bring him there.
What starts as an interesting update to the fairy tale, soon gets bogged down with some pedestrian direction, and a lame script.

abraham lincoln vs. zombies (2013)

"A woman has a right to defend herself."
Abraham Lincoln (Bill Oberst Jr.) has much to consider, with the civil war raging. Then he hears of a fort deep inside the south, and controlled by the confederacy, where rumours abound of cannibalism and the walking dead.
This pulls out all the cliches, and the lack of budget is obvious at times, as is the stilted direction, but this still manages to inject a little fun into the proceedings.
