"I can't help what I do! I can't help it, I can't..."
In a German city, Hans Beckert (Peter Lorre) is murdering young girls. The police are under pressure to find the killer, but are having no luck. In their efforts they are disturbing the work of organized crime and so the crime bosses decide the only way to get things back to normal is to catch the killer themselves.
A classic from a master filmmaker, featuring a masterful performance by Lorre, who manages to make us have compassion and sympathy for a child killer and rapist.
