shaolin and wu tang (1983)

aka Shao Lin yu Wu Dang.
"The Shaolin and the Wu-Tang could be dangerous."
Two friends, one a Shaolin disciple, the other a Wu-tang follower, are tricked by the local warlord who wants them to reveal their fighting secrets.
A nice mix of comedy and action drives this pleasing martial arts flick along.

cannibal girls (1972)

"All we ever do here is cook and eat."
Cliff and Gloria (Eugene Levy & Andrea Martin) arrive in the middle of nowhere for a winter vacation, and get told of the legend of the three women who feast on men they entice to their house.
Includes a warning bell to allow the squeamish to close their eyes and miss the gory bits, a very William Castle like touch, that hints at the tongue in cheek nature of the film.

frankenfish (2004)

"There's been a curse put on this place..."
Medical Examiner Sam Rivers (Tory Kittles) is called in when a body washes up in the swamp supposedly killed by an alligator, but he's quick to notice that the bite marks are not consistent with a gator.
Cheap creature feature that actually provides an interesting story with which to keep you watching. Then adds some surprisingly good special effects.

ginger snaps II unleashed (2004)

"If you keep me here people are gonna die."
Bea (Emily Perkins) is on the run, dosing herself up on Wolfsbane to prevent her transformation, and when she is found unconscious in the street it's presumed she's a drug addict. So Bea's held in a chemical dependency unit, battling to withhold the beast within.
Just about survives the curse of the sequel, this keeps you watching, though provides none of the thrills and thoughts of the original.

fear island (2009)

"Welcome to paradise..."
A young woman (Haylie Duff) is discovered with amnesia wandering alone on an island. Her six companions dead. Dr. Chalice (Anne Marie DeLuise) is tasked with protecting her and unraveling her memories to discover what happened.
Less of a horror and more of a whodunit, so pick the least likely and you'll probably be right.

cowboys and zombies (2011)

aka The Dead and the Damned.
"Spirit world my ass."
A mining town is transformed into zombie central when a meteor crashes nearby and transforms the population into flesh chewing chompers.
Throw in a bounty hunter and some women more than willing to take their tops off, and we have a would be exploitation classic, only it lacks that certain cheesiness.

the wolfman's hammer (2011)

"I like your boots."
Wolfman (Greg Hill) is your typical trailer trash. Living his days out selling dope and playing his guitar. Then his cousin (Cameron Brian Saunders) comes to stay, with dreams of starting a band.
Beautiful vision of dark things, that you know will end badly for all concerned. American, Drama, Brad Elmore,

moon of the wolf (1972)

"He's saying werewolf, and he's saying I'm his next victim."
A woman is found murdered in the Louisiana bijou, with the father of the victim mentioning a louparouque, but no one understands him. So it falls to the sheriff (David Janssen) to solve the killing. Meanwhile Louise (Barbara Rush), a member of the towns first family returns after many years away, and she and the sheriff are immediately attracted to each other, but are from across the social divide.
Mildly diverting detective story, with the usual red herrings.

return to the 36th chamber (1980)

aka Shao Lin da peng da shi.
"I knew when you first entered this place you were phoney."
The boss of a dye works hires some Manchu to bully his Han workforce and cuts their wages for the privilege. The workforce hire a con artist to play a Shaolin priest, who tricks the Manchu into restoring their wages, but the boss then humiliates Chao (Chia Hui Liu) and dejected Chao determines to actually learn Shaolin kung fu, the only way he knows how, by conning his way into the temple.
Martial arts comedy, that provides some fine set piece fight scenes along the way.

virus (1999)

"It needs power to move through the ship."
The Mir space station is attacked by an electrical storm, that beams itself onto the ship monitoring the craft, and into their computer systems. Later an American tug comes across the ship, seemingly abandoned, and thinking of it as salvage try to claim it, but something seems to be lurking in the dark...
Think Hardware meets Alien meets Die Hard and you won't be far off this effective actioner.
