Classic new wave cinema, right down to Miles Davis's improvised soundtrack, the evocative look of Paris at night, and the noirish story, that is in no hurry to reveal itself.

theatre of death (1967)

aka Blood Fiend."
"Someone is still controlling her."
Philippe Darvas (Christopher Lee) runs a grand guignol theatre in Paris, where police surgeon Charles Marquis (Julian Glover) hangs out, infatuated with actress Dani Gireaux (Lelia Goldoni). When a serial killer who starts leaving a trail of bloodless corpses about the place, Marquis begins to suspect Darvis, especially when he goes missing. Could Darvis be a vampire or a Dorian Grey like character?
A less than satisfying murder mystery, as one can see the possibilities that are often missed to make a decent scare flick.

the saint in london (1939)

"what part of the states are you from? Sing Sing?"
Simon Templer (George Sanders) is on home ground when he gets mixed up in an attempt to rob some foreign currency and picks up the adventurous Penny Parker (Sally Gray) along the way. Unfortunately she is soon kidnapped and the Saint has to get her back.
Grey makes a pleasingly sassy sidekick in this entertaining murder mystery.

the saint in palm springs (1941)

"You are fascinating and sinister."
Fernack (Jonatan Hale) asks the help of the Saint (George Sanders), to act as body guard to a friend who is traveling to Palm Springs with some valuable stamps. When the friend is murdered, the Saint takes this as a slight, and delivers the stamps to the next of kin, Elna Johnson (Wendy Barrie). But in doing so he drops her into trouble, and has to protect her with old hood Pearly Gates (Paul Guilfoyle), now turned house detective.
Entertaining comedy thriller, that clips along at a fair pace.
