carry on matron (1972)

"My wife doesn't like it!"
The Carry on team again decamp to a hospital setting. This time a gang of criminals, led by Sid James plan on stealing drugs from a hospital. They hit on a plan to infiltrate the staff with Kenneth Cope dragging up as a nurse. Meanwhile various other members of the team turn up as neurotic doctors, nurses or patients.
By this point the Carry on team had hit its stride, treading a fine line between slapstick, sight gags and double entendre's. You either love 'em or hate them. To me it's fine sunday afternoon fare, if it's on tv.

z. p. g. (1971)

"Child bearing is now forbidden."
A woman gets broody and desires to have a child. Unfortunately, this being the future, and due to overpopulation, the world's governments have outlawed childbirth on pain of death. But a woman's desires and needs will out...
Starring Oliver Reed and Geraldine Chaplin, ZPG is a sombre and reflective piece of sci-fi. Though its somewhat detatched approach didn't make me feel for the characters or their predicament.

the incredible melting man (1977)

"Steve do you read me? Steve are you alright?"
An astronaut (Alex Rebar) returns to earth a changed man. The only survivor of the mission to Saturn, he starts to mutate and melt, whilst becoming ever more angry and murderous. Then he escapes, Can the doctors track him down, contain him, and keep the public from finding out.
A shameless update of Hammer's 'Quatermass Xperiment', this is cheesy, cheap and featuring some of the least inspired acting in a long time! It manages to feature enough uninspired direction, and acting to enter that small body of work, the so bad it's good flick.

lovers from beyond the tomb (1965)

aka Gli Amanti d'oltretomba. Nightmare Castle. Night of the Doomed. The Faceless Monster.
"You can kill my body, but I will never leave you in peace."
Finding his wife in the arms of another man, the husband (Giuseppe Addobbati) tortures and kills them. He then marries his mentally unstable sister-in-law, when he discovers she has inherited the murdered woman's fortune. Subsequently she starts suffering nightmares and is haunted by the ghosts of the slain pair.
Barbara Steele plays both sisters in this well made and moody gothic horror.

scream (1996)

"Now Sid, don't you blame the movies, movies don't create psychos, movies make psychos more creative!"
On the anniversary of the death of Sidney's (Neve Campbell) mother, two students are found butchered. Sidney begins to suspect there is a serial killer at work. No one is safe and everyone's a suspect.
One of those films that re-freshes a genre, in this case horror. Craven produces a film that renews the formula of teens in trouble slasher flick, with a witty and inventive script from Kevin Williamson.
