the night of the living dead (1990)

"This is something that nobody as ever heard about, and nobody has seen before. This is hell on earth, pure hell on earth."
Barbara (Patricia Tallman) flees to a remote farmhouse when pursued by zombies. There she meets Ben (Tony Todd) and they decide to hole up there as they try to survive the onslaught, and make sense of what is happening.
Remaking the daddy of all zombies was always going to be an uphill task, but this makes a fair stab at updating the franchise, Keeping to the plot, whilst adding some new material.

splintered (2010)

"We've got you now love."
Talk of a wild beast roaming a forest in North Wales brings Sophie (Holly Weston), and some friends there, determined to track it down. But they have little idea of what they are getting themselves into, and what past trauma's it will drag up.
Less than the sum of it's parts. Drawing elements of other horror's together, in this initially slow moving, and not entirely successful thriller.

mama (2012)

"I want you to tell me about Mama."
When a businessman's life goes wrong, he shoots his wife and kidnaps his two children (Megan Charpentier & Isabelle Nélisse), intending to kill them in a remote forest. Five years later the kids are found, and their uncle and girlfriend (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau & Jessica Chastain) take them in, trying to rehabilitate them, but what/who has been taking care of them whilst wild in the woods?
Slow moving, but with some wonderfully subtle moments.

john dies at the end (2012)

"Follow me."
Dave's (Chase Williamson) life gets very trippy when his friend John (Rob Mayes) takes a drug called soy sauce. FRom that point on Dave and John have to battle a being from an alternate reality to save the world.
Enjoyably warped sci-fi, adding comedy and gore into the mix.

haywire (2011)

"The motive is money, it's always money."
Ex-marine Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) is now a private contractor, leased out to the government for those tricky assignments that the CIA cannot get involved with. Unfortunately her boss (Ewan McGregor) is in too deep and tries to get rid of the evidence, i.e. her.
A sort of cut price female version of the Bourne franchise, without the camera trickery, or the memory loss.

it's in the blood (2012)

"I got nothing left... but white noise."
An unresolved trama comes to the fore when an estranged father (Lance Henriksen) and son (Sean Elliot) are left fighting for their lives whilst on a hunting trip.
A horror come psycho-drama, which slowly draws you into it's story.
