munster, go home! (1966)

"Marilyn, if you should happen to meet any strange men on board, be sure and speak to them."
The Munster family inherit a British estate, unfortunately its the base for some counterfeiters, including Terry-Thomas and John Carradine, who set about trying to scare the family off the property.
Made for TV, but theatrically released upgrade of the tv series, does little to engage.

flesh gordon (1974)

"Do you take me for a fool?"
Emperor Wang (William Dennis Hunt) from the planet Porno uses his mighty "Sex Ray" on Earth, turning everyone sex-mad. Flesh Gordon (Jason Williams), his girlfriend Dale Ardor (Suzanne Fields), and Professor Jerkoff (Joseph Hudgins), set about trying to destroy the Sex Ray, and saving the earth.
Childish softcore Spoof of the sci-fi serial.

dr. Terror's house of horrors (1964)

aka The Blood Suckers. Doctor Terror.
"Schreck? That's a German word isn't it? Means fear or horror."
A number of people are in a train carriage and told their futures by Dr Sandor Schreck (Peter Cushing), with all five doomed in some way.
First of many portmanteau productions from Amicus, this one featuring such luminaries as Donald Sutherland and Christopher Lee.

captain nemo and the underwater city (1969)

aka Captain Nemo and the Floating City
"When the enemy is in disarray, that is the time to reconnoiter."
Capt Nemo (Robert Ryan) has to defend his underwater metropolis against a giant manta ray. Meanwhile some passengers from a ship he saved from drowning are proving difficult, including Senator Robert Fraser (Chuck Connors).
Lack-luster prequel to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, tries to add comedy to the mix with petty crooks Bill Fraser and Kenneth Connor.

the beast with five fingers (1946)

"I merely want your testimony that I am not insane."
A pianist dies after falling down some stairs, possibly murdered. After his death, the villagers come to believe that a recently deceased pianists estate is cursed, as strange things start happening including some murders. Could it be that his severed hand is stalking the mansion looking for revenge.
Lorre holds this Gothic tale together.

battle beyond the stars (1980)

"While life exists, the possibilities are unlimited."
Sador (John Saxon) is threatening the earth, so seven fighters are brought together to save the world, (inc George Peppard, Robert Vaughn & Sybil Danning).
A camp mix of the Seven Samurai and Star Wars.

the bad seed (1956)

"Rhoda, what happened to old Mrs. Post in Wichita?"
Christine Penmark (Nancy Kelly) has it all, a perfect husband, house and child, but she begins to suspect that her seemingly perfect 8-year-old daughter Rhoda (Patty McCormack) is actually a heartless killer.
A melodrama, that has some horrific moments and a startling central performance from Patty McCormack.

the man in the mirror (1936)

"The trouble is that you are traveling in low gear...if only you would let yourself go."
Meek and mild Jeremy Dilke (Edward Everett Horton), is surprised when his reflection comes to life, and this alter ego sets about doing everything he wanted to but considered too wild and crazy.
Finely crafted technically, this is let down by an over talky script.

altered states (1980)

"The purpose of our suffering is only more suffering."
A scientists (William Hurt) researches de-evolution using himself as a guinea pig, resulting in his devolving into a caveman, with all the problems this brings.
A warping of the Jeykll and Hyde story, ramping up the evolution and drugs elements, as Ken Russell puts his stamp on the tale (i.e. drugs and religious imagery).

wild at heart (1990)

"He told me once he could find an honest man in Washington."
Sailor and Lula (Nicolas Cage & Laura Dern), go on the run from a bunch of freaks, (including Willem Dafoe and Crispin Glover), hired by Lula's mom (Diane Ladd) who wants them to kill Sailor.
A Bonnie and Clyde for the 90's, in this twisted road trip.

live and let die (1973)

"He's a Englishman workin' in cooperation with our boys, a sorta... secret agent."
James Bond (Roger Moore) is on the trail of a multi-national heroin supplier (Yaphet Kotto), but one with a weakness for a tarot card reader (Jane Seymour).
Bond enters the world of the Blacksploitation flick, with the raised eye-brow, quipping, version of the secret agent.

empire records (1995)

aka Empire.
"Damn the man. Save the Empire."
The every day drama's of the teen employees of an independent music store are thrown into relief when they find out that the store is about to be taken over by a large chain, ending their easy life.
Coming of age teen rom-com, featuring early outings for Liv Tyler and Renée Zellweger, and with enough about it to bear repeat viewing,

delicatessen (1991)

"One must always forgive."
The Post-apocalyptic life of a house, populated by a some interesting and entertaining tenants, precided over by their landlord and the occasionally treat he prepares for them, but where does this meat come from?
Inventive and surreal black comedy introducing the non-French speaking world to the work of Caro and Jeunet.

christiane f (1981)

aka Christiane F. - Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo.
"Didn't it hurt?"
Christiane F. (Natja Brunckhorst), a bored and listless 14 year old meets Detlef (Thomas Haustein), and his drugged up friends, and slowly she is drawn into his scene centered on their heroin abuse.
A realistic look into the life of a teenage addict, based on a real case and sound tracked by David Bowie.

the elephant man (1980)

"My life is full because I know I am loved."
Victorian surgeon Frederick Treves (Anthony Hopkins) finds a disfigured man (John Hurt) exhibited as the Elephant Man in a freak show, and rescues him from his life of abuse,and bringing him some much needed dignity.
A tour-de-force in film making, bringing humanity to a tragic story.

dr. no (1962)

"The name's Bond, James Bond."
Licensed to kill, and devastate the female population, James Bond (Sean Connery) is sent to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a colleague. Could it be related to American space program?
The first outing of Bond, and the introduction of Ursula Andress to many a male fantasy.

the night porter (1974)

aka Il portiere di notte.
"It was a long time ago"
Holocaust survivor Lucia (Charlotte Rampling) chances upon one of her captors, ex-nazi Max (Dirk Bogarde), who is now a night porter in a hotel. Once over the shock, she falls back into an abusive and sadomasochistic relationship, mirroring the one they had whilst in the concentration camp.
Beautifully shot, but flawed Nazisploitation, held together by Bogardes performance.

blood mania (1970)

"I heard about women like you!"
Nymphomaniac Victoria (Maria De Aragon) helps kill her father so she can get her hands on his inheritance. Her plan is to help out her depraved boyfriend Dr Craig Cooper (Peter Carpenter), but daddy puts a spoke in the works by giving most of the money to younger sister Gail (Vicki Peters).
A psychedelic rock soundtrack adds to the sleazy of this overwrought melodrama.

wild rebels (1967)

"Whats going on?"
Stock car driver, Rod Tillman (Steve Alaimo), gives up on racing and hooks up with biker gang the Satans Angels. The trouble is that their income is gained by robbing banks and Rod decides to go undercover for the cops.
A dated attempt at jumping the mc gang genre, with a few musical numbers thrown in to liven things up.
