the damned (1963)

aka These Are The Damned.
"My children are the buried seeds of life."
1963 saw the release of this great curio. A mix of Village of the Damned and The Wild One. Oliver Reed knocks around a seaside town causing trouble. When his sister takes up with an American, he makes his dislike plain to see. When they run off they stumble on a scientific establishment that is experimenting on a group of school children, and try to help them.
The film exudes a cold war paranoia where the bomb could be dropped at any moment, and asks a lot of questions, whilst giving no answers.

man bait (1952)

aka The Last Page.
1952 saw Diana Dors as the vamp in this great noir. She's manipulated by a scheming boyfriend into trying to blackmail her boss George Brent, leading to lots of trouble for everyone.

bad blonde (1953)

aka The Woman Is Trouble or The Flanagan Boy
Barbara Payton is the wife of a boxing manager, who takes a shine to his new great white hope. Eventually he succumbs to her wiles and she convinces him that they need to do something about her husband.
A nice little noir that also features a fine world-weary performance from Sid James.

a stolen face (1952)

aka Stolen Face
A Hammer film noir. This time featuring Paul Henreid and Lizabeth Scott. Henreid is a skilled plastic surgeon who helps remold the faces of prisoners, with a view to rehabilitating them. Following a holiday during which he falls in love with an American concert pianist, he molds a prisoners face to resemble that of the pianist. Then the fun begins...
The actors do their best to make this a fun film - but you have to suspend more than a little disbelief!

blackout (1954)

aka Murder By Proxy or Black Out
One of a series of film noir that Hammer Films produced during the 50's - this is one of the best of them. A drunk American is offered £500 by a beautiful blonde to marry her and as you can guess this only leads to trouble when her father is subsequently found dead. Dane Clark then has to piece together his movements and the motive for the murder. Full of nice one liners.
