cat in the cage (1978)

"We cats are very cunning and unpredictable...
Bruce (Behrouz Vossoughi) returns home, after a breakdown due to his mother's death, and a stay in a mental hospital. On his return Bruce finds his father has taken another wife, his mother's nurse (Sybil Danning), but she seems more interested in the chauffeur. Could it be that she's plotting to get her hands on all of the money by getting rid of her new husband?
Clunker of a melodrama, where even the cat doesn't give a convincing performance.

who done it (1956)

"None of us are infallible."
Hugo Dill (Benny Hill), an avid reader of detective fiction, decides to become a private detective and soon ends up out of his depth. He takes a job impersonating an Eastern European scientist, who wants it to appear that he has died, and who do you think will be killed in his place? Complicating things is Dill's love for Frankie Mayne (Belinda Lee), who is trying to keep her occupation as a strong woman a secret from him.
Benny Hill's film debut is not a sophisticated one, or one that is particularly funny, and has something of a warmed over Will Hay or George Formby about it.

the return of sabata (1971)

aka È tornato Sabata... hai chiuso un'altra volta.
"Sounds like legalised theft to me!"
Hobsonville is a town under the thumb of one man, McIntock (Giampiero Albertini), who is fleecing the townsfolk by taxing everything he can. Enter Sabata (Lee Van Cleef), who arrives as part of a travelling circus and takes exception to the local government regime of the town.
Sabata returns with a set of acrobatic sidekicks this time, in this convoluted, but entertaining western.

kill them all and come back alone (1968)

aka Ammazzali tutti e torna solo. Go Kill Everybody and Come Back Alone.
"What is it makes you think we can trust such a band of bandits, killers, and thieves?"
Almeria again becomes home to a western, this time set during the American Civil War, where a Confederate agent (Chuck Connors) is chosen by Captain (Frank Wolff) to hand picks a team to steal a gold shipment destined to buy the Union weapons. His orders also specify that his team are not to return with him, but they object to this caveat.
Lots of action, and some surprises along the way, make you forget that this is familiar ground, with the script mixing in bits from many other westerns.

god's gun (1977)

aka Diamante Lobo.
"Johnny, it's time to spread God's word."
When a man is killed in the saloon, by a gang led by Sam Clayton (Jack Palance), no one will go after them. So the local priest, Father John (Lee Van Cleef), takes on the responsibility, but this of course leads to his murder. As the gang gloat and take over the town, alter boy Johnny (Leif Garrett) heads off to get the father's brother Lewis (Lee Van Cleef).
interesting premise, with a couple of neat touches, and a lot of clinkers, but overall cheaply produced, badly.

count dracula (1970)

aka Jess Franco's Count Dracula. Nachts, wenn Dracula erwacht. Bram Stoker's Count Dracula. The Nights of Dracula.
"Professor you must do something, you can't let her die through ignorance."
A standard telling of the Dracula story, with Jonathan Harker (Fred Williams) enabling the Count (Christopher Lee) to spread his wings and emergrate to England. Fortunately Prof. Van Helsing (Herbert Lom) is on hand to revoke his visa!
Jess Franco tries to tell the vampire story as straight as possible, but spends all the money on the all star cast, including Klaus Kinski. With very little left for anything else, he manages only to deliver a prosaic version of the tale.

the satanic rites of dracula (1973)

aka Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride. Dracula Is Alive and Well and Living in London. Dracula Is Dead... and Well and Living in London. Rites of Dracula.
"evil rules you know"
When a government minister is caught by the security services taking part in satanic rituals, they move to find out what's going on. They consult with the occult expert Prof. Van Helsing (Peter Cushing), and investigate the background of the reclusive businessman behind the cult, the mysterious D D Denham.
The last of the Hammer Dracula's to feature Christopher Lee, brings the series up to date, with a conspiratorial mix of big business and politics.

the raid: redemption (2012)

aka Serbuan maut.
"Go to work and have a fun."
A SWAT team, including Rama (Iko Uwais), is sent into a tower block run by a ruthless drug dealer, but once inside the team realises that they are on their own, surrounded by vicious gangsters intent on killing them.
Like a fight game brought to life, this has little in the way of plot, just pure unadulterated brutal and punishing action.

Merantau (2009)

aka Merantau Warrior.
"I think we can handle this one."
Yuda (Iko Uwais), leaves his village to move to Jakarta to make money for his family. There he comes to the aid of Astri (Sisca Jessica), an orphan who is about to be kidnapped by a local gang. Defending Astri and her brother, the three end up on the run from Ratger (Mads Koudal), the vicious leader of the gang, and prey to every lowlife in the city...
After a slow start, this soon ramps up the action, which lets face it, is what we are after in a martial arts movie.
