the pale faced girl (1969)

"How would you like to come and work for me?"
A gang of lads in Dublin, prowl the dancehall looking for girls. Mick (Kevin McHugh) pulls Cecilia (Fidelma Murphy), and pursuades her to go with him to the beach, but things don't go as planned, and she may well be doing something other girls haven't been able to do - get under his skin.
A romantic little tale, that at 25 minutes has little chance to outstay its welcome. A beautiful insight to a lost world.

  1. I remember seeing this Eire short film on Channel 4 many years ago in the wee hours of the morning! Although my recollections of it are pretty hazy now its one of these things that lodged permanently in my subconscious...the ballroon scene, the girl and guy riding through the night on a Dublin Corporation green bus...their final sestination near the seaside...or maybe I imagined that part!! Would love to see it again though a DVD release seems pretty unlikely!! :-)

  2. Hi, you are not wrong - they do indeed end up on the beach after a journey on a double decker. Unfortunately for him, after paying her bus fare, and buying her an ice cream, he doesn't get his way and they end up back at the ballroom. He of course tells his mates otherwise!
